Description

   

Locality:

Indonesia

Cold Hardiness: 

30-32s, F.

Trunk type:

Thin (2-3 inches).  The trunks are a light yellow/white color.

Leaf type:

Pinnate (feather shaped). This palm has fat dark green leaflets. The leaves are about 4-5 feet.

Suckering/Solitary:

Suckering (multiple trunk).

Maintenance:

Easy, but likes humidity.

Speed of growth:

Moderate.

Height:

10-12 feet.

Soil requirements:

Rich, sandy soil that drains well.

Sun Requirements:

Shade or filtered.

General Description:

This is a great palm for most of Southern California.  It is very tropical looking, but will tolerate our conditions.  Is definitely worth growing.  

Other Notes:

Many mature examples of this palm can be found throughout California.  It is an easy grow and really adds a lush look to your garden.

Further Data:

Some taxonomist lump this species with P. coronata
