Description

   

Locality:

Laos (Southeast Asia)

Cold Hardiness: 

About 25s, F.

Trunk type:

Single trunk, hairy at first, later clean but "knobby".

Leaf type:

Pinnate (feather shaped) with spines

Suckering/Solitary:

Single trunk, although there is a natural occuring suckdering form. (Laos) 

Maintenance:

Easy in full sun.

Speed of growth:

Slow to medium

Height:

Very mature up to 10 feet overall.

Soil requirements:

Average

Sun Requirements:

Full sun.  Can die if get shade out.

General Description:

A nice small single trunk palm good for most areas.  Look nice in clumps. of three plants.  Plant away from walk areas because of the spines.  "Knobby" trunks are nice.

Other Notes:

Can die with transplantation from the garden if large.  Need huge root ball.  Keep in full sun in most areas.  Don't overwater.
