Southeast Asia

Cold Hardiness: 

Dies below 46 F.  Cannot be grown outdoors in So Cal

Trunk type:

Clean with beautiful red crown shaft

Leaf type:

Pinnate (feather shape).

Suckering/Solitary:

Suckering (multiple trunks).

Maintenance:

In the tropics easy if have good drainage, sun and ample water.  In colder areas, impossible to grow outdoors.

Speed of growth:

Slow to medium

Height:

About 30 feet 

Soil requirements:

Good draining soil

Sun Requirements:

Full sun

General Description:

One of the most beautiful and sought-after palms in the world.  Many people mistakenly think they can grow them in cooler areas; it is simply not possible.  Can be greenhouse grown, but reliably die at temperatures of 45 degrees F. and less.

Known for its bright red crown shafts.
