Locality:

South America

Cold Hardiness: 

Little, possibly down-to 32, F., perhaps a bit lower

Trunk type:

A spiny, single, non-crownshafted palm  [doesn't have a shaft composed of tightly wrapped leaf-bases at the top of the trunk].

Leaf type:

Spiny, pinnate (feathered shaped), fishtail leaflets.

Suckering/Solitary:

Solitary (single trunk).

Maintenance:

Average

Speed of growth:

Medium to Fast.

Height:

Perhaps up-to 20' feet plus.

Soil requirements:

Average moisture, good drainage.

Sun Requirements:

Some protection (slightly filtered light or partial sun), or full sun if in tropical areas.

General Description:

Spiny, single-trunk plant with fishtail leaflets; similar to Caryota species.

Other Notes:

Well grown, makes a beautiful spiny tree.
