Description

   

Locality:

Ryukyu Islands, Japan (Southern Japan)

Cold Hardiness: 

Probably about 32s, F.

Trunk type:

Thin trunk, nice dark crown shaft, beautiful crown.

Leaf type:

  Pinnate, about 10 feet long, ornamental.

Suckering/Solitary:

Solitary

Maintenance:

Difficult in cooler areas.  Easily grown in subtropical and tropical areas.

Speed of growth:

Medium

Height:

To about 30 feet.

Soil requirements:

Rich, well draining.

Sun Requirements:

Full sun when larger, probably filtered when seedling. 

General Description:

One of the more beautiful palms in the world.  It would be on most people's top 30 species.  It is graceful, elegant, tropical appearing and rare.  

Other Notes:

If you're warm enough, it's worth trying to grow.  Very sought after.
